Very true Tleketle very true. This is why there most be a solid turnout at the elections, to send the ANC the message that the people want a true and free democracy as proposed in the Freedom Charter and in the Constitution. The Exectuvive is constandly calling for the 2/3rds majority, but so far the party has not earned the confidence and trust of a large segment of the citizens. I have heard people saying they were better off under apartheid; I never thought I would hear this from black and coloured South Africans, I never wanted to hear this ever. As an ex-ANC member I am very disapointed in the failure of the party to help bring about a true reconciliation, a healing, a New South Africa. I did not expect miracles, but I did not expect things to worsen so much. The low turn-out of the youth segment and their expressed concerns and beliefs that nothing has changed and that nothing would change. 50 years of oppression did not demoralize the youth as the 5 years of the present government. The faces of the leaders grow fat, the faces of the people grow thin. South Africa can still be the dream of the people or it can be the nightmares of our neighboring countries of Zimbabwe, Angola, Mozambique. The people of South Africa have one last time to change this. This is why I urge everyone who can vote to be registered and send a message to Mbeki in the form of strong opposition to keep the progress of the country on track. | |
